ISBN に続く数字 (10桁) を左から順に n1, n2, …, n9, n10 とすると、
n10 = 11 - ((10n1 + 9n2 + … + 2n9) mod 11)
ただし結果が 10 の場合は n10 = 'X' (文字)
だそうです。
あれ、なんか違う計算式のページも発見…。この 2つの式って等価??
上のページによると、
n10 = (n1 + 2n2 + … + 9n9) mod 11
らしい。計算してみたら結果は一緒になった。

なお、 2007年 1月 1日より ISBN コードが 10桁から 13桁に。 チェックディジットの計算方法も変更になる。
ISBN13 のチェックディジット n13 算出法。
No = n1 + n3 + ... + n11 (奇数番目数値の和)、
Ne = n2 + n4 + ... + n12 (偶数番目数値の和)、
として、
N = (No + 3 × Ne) mod 10
とすると、
N が 0 の時は n13 = 0、
それ以外の時は n13 = 10 - N
